10 Awesome WWE Groups That Didn't Get Enough Time
6. Roderick Strong And Pete Dunne
Unlike many of the others on this list, the tag team of Pete Dunne and Roderick Strong ended perfectly, with the former ROH champion turning heel on his partner Dunne at Takeover New Orleans to join The Undisputed Era. A truly electrifying and shocking wrestling moment, it remains one of NXT’s finest storytelling moments in recent years and happened at exactly the right time to make maximum impact.
The only problem is that Dunne and Strong deserved way more time together as a unit leading up to Takeover New Orleans, as they were absolutely fantastic together. The gradual face turn of NXT’s grumpiest Englishman was handled perfectly through the pairing with the (at the time) inherently sympathetic veteran Strong, and their immaculate chemistry in made NXT fans believe that they were capable of dethroning The Undisputed Era.
If they had been built before the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic and gotten more segments to interact outside of the ring to strengthen their bond, they’d be remembered as an all-time great NXT tag team and it would have made the masterful heel turn emotionally effective as well as shocking.
