Considering how similar their on-air personalities were, it's almost mind-blowing Randy Orton and Edge didn't join forces earlier than they did. Orton was largely directionless throughout 2006 and Edge was fresh off his loss of the WWE Championship to John Cena, but they came together to take out a shared enemy in D-Generation X.

But before that, they did what Orton was notorious for in “killing” the legends of Ric Flair and Roddy Piper by beating them for the World Tag Team Championship in November 2006. Triple H and Shawn Michaels were next on their list of legends to annihilate, but they weren't as easy of a target. The two tandems went to war on multiple occasions in the final few months of the year as well as at the onset of 2007, but an injury suffered by The Game caused the rivalry to get cut short prematurely.

Regardless of whether they would have lost the titles to DX or not, WWE still broke up Orton and Edge far too soon. They remained allies at times on the road to WrestleMania yet still teased tension. It looked like they were on a collision course toward a full-fledged feud, but Edge moved over to the SmackDown brand before that could come to fruition.

They could have done much more for the tag division had they been a long-term team. Nevertheless, it was incredibly fun while it lasted.
