10 Awesome WWE Promos You Probably Don't Remember
5. Truth Be Told
New Year’s Revolution January 8th 2006
It’s axiomatic amongst wrestling fans that - personal problems aside - Kurt Angle is one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time. He brought the same passionate, uncompromising commitment to pro wrestling that he did to amateur wrestling, to training for, qualifying for and winning at the 1996 Summer Olympics.
That’s the physicality of it, all of which is fairly understandable given his unparalleled amateur background and work ethic. But Angle also has a deep-seated understanding of the storytelling aspect of the job, the psychology of pro wrestling and he can talk apples out of trees.
He’s an intense, powerful promo when he needs to be, and a really funny promo when that’s what’s called for - Angle has never been shy about making himself look foolish if it gets the angle over. Here, we get a little of both, as he sets out for Todd Grisham exactly why it is he’s walking out of the Elimination Chamber with the WWE Championship (he’s not).
Oh, and bonus points for the always underrated Daivari, whose interjections are golden.
Who’d Jesus ever beat, indeed...
