10 Awesome WWE Returns RUINED By Awful Reactions
8. 'Razor Ramon' And 'Diesel' (Raw - September 1996)
In mid-1996, two of the hottest acts in WWF, Scott Hall and Kevin Nash left for the greener pastures of WCW. On their arrival, they played the role of 'Outsiders', with the intention of creating ambiguity. Did they really leave WWF? Were they in business for themselves? What was going on?
A few months later they, along with Hulk Hogan, founded the NWO and took off like a rocket.
In September 1996, WWF began advertising 'the return of Razor and Diesel'. This was also newsworthy. Were Hall and Nash heading back? Had they actually been sent to 'invade' WCW?
After a few weeks of teasing, Jim Ross brought out 'Razor Ramon', played by Rick Bognar in a Razor costume and haircut, toothpick and all. 'Diesel', now played by Glen Jacobs, followed a few weeks later. In reality, this was nothing but a shot by Vince McMahon at WCW, Hall, and Nash. WWF owned those characters, and fans wanted to see the characters, dammit!
They didn't.
Fans were furious and the commentary team couldn't even be bothered to try selling this tripe.
This experiment was an abject failure. Sadly, while there may have been potential for some tongue-in-cheek, meta-commentary on wrestling here, Vince had poor Jim Ross play it straight, like these were the real Razor and Diesel. No one came out of this looking smart.
