10 Awful WCW Gimmicks That Immediately Died
9. Oz
Kevin "Big Sexy" Nash was the epitome of wrestling cool. He was also one of the biggest stars of WCW, and frankly the entire Monday Night Wars - and yet even he once had to cosplay as a character from a beloved children's movie.
In 1991, before he was Diesel, he was Oz, a spikey-haired rookie who came to the ring in an oversized, luminous green cape and a luxuriant, silver beard (which, ironically, was probably supposed to imply wisdom).
After a handful of wins, Nash's new character was forced to hang up his cape after a loss to Ron Simmons at The Great American Bash, due to a reported contractual issue that mysteriously arose right around the time things were beginning to take off.
To his credit, Nash succeeded in completely reinventing himself two years later after signing for the WWF, where he became world champion for the first time. That was enough to earn a big-money move back to Atlanta in '96 and, well, you know the rest.
