6. Simon Dean

While I’m on the subject of the Gymini, the genius behind the system that got them in such magnificent shape wasn’t exactly the most successful gimmick of the era. Mike Bucci was an undeniably talented performer blessed with bags of charisma, and the New Jersey-native has long been credited as the brains behind ECW’s Blue World Order stable. Unfortunately, that imagination ran out by the time WWE came calling in 2002.

It might not be fair to point the finger of blame squarely at Bucci, but the Simon Dean gimmick was doomed from the start. Dean was undoubtedly annoying, but that can only take a heel so far in pro wrestling. The novelty of seeing him get demolished soon wore off.

To his credit, Mike Bucci milked the gimmick for all it was worth. Unfortunately for him it wasn’t worth that much, and by the summer of 2006 Simon Dean has disappeared from TV. He wasn’t missed.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
