10 Awful WWE Ruthless Aggression Gimmicks That Didn't Get Over
7. The Gymini
Get it? They are twins, and they obviously go to the gym a lot, see? You know, like the star sign Gemini, only with added muscle? What do you mean it’s lame? Come on, puns are great! Puns can be great, but as a moniker for a hulking heel tag team?
Anyone who has ever played EWR will remember the The Shane Twins, a pair of jacked up brothers that were a useful addition to any tag team division, but the real world of professional wrestling wasn’t so kind to these Dean Malenko-trained siblings. Mike and Todd Shane signed with WWE in 2005 and performed in developmental as The Regulators, but the duo made their main roster debut in January 2006 under a different name entirely.
Gymini was that name, and the bald brothers were presented as little more than Simon Dean’s muscle, a pair of extremely satisfied Simon System customers. The gimmick was a stinker from the get-go, although the duo picked up a number of wins before a springtime injury put the kibosh on the whole thing. One year and 12 days after their main roster debut, the twins were released.
It might seem unbelievable, but The Shane Twins were actually given an even rougher deal in TNA years earlier. The duo wore latex bodysuits and were billed as The Johnsons, a gimmick that was every bit as puerile as you assume it was.
Needless to say, the 2002 Wrestling Observer Newsletter award for Worst Gimmick was theirs.
