10 Babyface Champions WWE Fans Just Wouldn’t Accept

3. Big Show (1999)

Longevity and a willingness to do whatever WWE deem necessary have combined to make Big Show a deserving candidate for future induction to the WWE Hall Of Fame, but analysing his first year in the company is startling. Entering the then-WWF in February, 1999, the former WCW giant had already flipped between heel and babyface several times before the year was over.

When depicted as an angry monster who was brought in to tear Steve Austin apart at the behest of Mr. McMahon, the menacing Show was at his best. Somehow though, this transitioned into an attempt to make the big man a sympathetic babyface World Champion.

Shockingly winning the WWF Title at Survivor Series '99, the man once dubbed 'Big Nasty' then embarked on a short-lived feud against The Big Boss Man, one during which the heel Boss Man made fun of Show's dead father.

The angle was tasteless, but that controversy glosses over the fact that fans couldn't build a genuine connection with Show. A legit seven foot monster, the reigning champ was not someone the WWF audience felt empathy towards and that hurt his short stint as a babyface.
