Daniel Bryan's retirement in 2016 shocked the entire pro wrestling fraternity, and there wasn't a single dry eye in the arena when he delivered his heartbreaking retirement speech on the 8 February 2016 episode of Raw. It was the same scene in Seth Rollins' house as The Visionary revealed that he sobbed like a baby watching Bryan's speech.

Rollins and Bryan go way back, even before their time together in WWE. They have shared the ring on several occasions in Ring of Honor, both as opponents and partners. They also had a few encounters in WWE during Rollins' time in The Shield and the Authority storyline.

While talking to Chris Jericho on his Talk is Jericho podcast, Rollins reminisced about his history with Bryan and expressed his disappointment over not being able to be there in person for him that night since he was out of action due to a knee injury. Rollins revealed that he fought back tears throughout Bryan's speech but couldn't hold them back when Brie Bella joined him in the ring at the end.

However, Daniel Bryan didn't give up on his dreams and continued to fight for them, which resulted in him getting cleared to compete in 2018, and he and Seth Rollins competed against each other for the first time since his return in a tag team match at the 2018 Tribute to the Troops event.
