10 Backstage Wrestling Rivalries You Won't Believe

1. Holding Back The Great One

By far one of the biggest match-ups to never take place, the sheer magic The Rock and Shawn Michaels could have created together in their respective primes makes it sad to think they never clashed one-on-one. Two of the biggest superstars of a generation, Michaels vs. The Rock would have been a license to print money. Of course, it never happened, and many reasons have been given to explain why. On The Rock's side, he witnessed HBK being - in his eyes - disrespectful towards his grandmother as a teenager, something he never really forgave Shawn for. Adding fuel to the fire, Bret Hart wrote in his autobiography that both Michaels and Triple H wanted to sabotage The Rock's push up the card in 1997, seeing his as competition that they didn't want. During an interview with Jim Ross, Shawn opened up, saying that he had been approached with the idea of working with The Rock on more than one occasion, but that Rocky didn't want to do it. Meeting up backstage at Wrestlemania 27 in 2011, the pair seemingly put some of their tension to rest, clearing the air somewhat, but it's intriguing to know that there was a point when The Rock didn't want to work with a man many others would dream of wrestling. These are just some of the many fights and disagreements which have taken place behind the curtain in WWE, and wrestling in general. What are some of your favourites?
