Clashing with CM Punk, the crux of the story revolved around Punk's new heel character, played off his real life straight edge lifestyle. On the contrary, Hardy was cast as a free spirit, and the crime that Jeff was painted as a role model to young children was the basis of Punk's storyline argument. Incredibly, it turns out that a lot of the kayfabe discord between both men actually bled into real life, and the pair have had some heated things to say about one another. It seems a lot of this trouble comes from comments Punk made following Hardy's WWE departure and subsequent arrest, which only served to rub salt into Jeff's wounds and annoy him considerably.
