In 1999 Ken Shamrock was at the height of his popularity in the WWE. The former UFC hard-man was a firm favourite with the wild Attitude Era crowds thanks to his intense, believable character and matching ring style. Shamrock, a former Intercontinental Champion (back when that belt meant something), had memorable feuds and contested great matches with the likes of The Rock, Owen Hart and, believe it or not, fellow hard-man Steve Blackman. Not much needed to be added to the Shamrock character it seemed but Vince McMahon had other ideas and pitched something to the wrestler that would leave him questioning his future with the group. In January of 99 a new dimension was added to Shamrocks character when his (kayfabe) younger sister Ryan debuted. It wasnt long before ass man Billy Gunn, adult film star Val Venis and... well, Goldust began overtures towards Ryan causing Shamrock to snap into big brother mode and beat them to a pulp for eying his little sister. Apparently, it wasnt enough to have three popular WWE stars vying for Ryans attentions. Vince McMahon pitched to Ken that perhaps his Shamrock character should also be interested in her and that they should become lovers. Thats right: Vince McMahon told a UFC hall of famer that it would be a good idea if he participated in an angle where he would be portrayed as having incestuous feelings. Ken decided against the idea, due to the inherently poor taste of the angle and the fact that he had two young children of his own and didnt want them to suffer because of it. He found himself doing jobs for the next few months as punishment and left the WWE later in the year in order to resume his UFC career.
