As the Rainmaker and one of the best IWGP Heavyweight Champions in the history of New Japan, Kazuchika Okada is also one of the best babyfaces in the world.

During his reigns as champion, crowds sometimes disconnected from Okada and just saw him as a champion that couldn’t be touched. However, a turning point came for the Rainmaker after losing his title to Kenny Omega at Dominion in 2018.

Crowds began to see a less serious and more relatable Okada who was someone they could really have fun with. Whether it was coming out with bright red hair or balloons with faces on it, it felt as if a weight had been lifted off Okada and we got to see the real Rainmaker. It was a time when he didn’t have the pressure of the title on his shoulder.

Even after beating the company’s top heel Jay White for the title at G1 Supercard in April 2019 and then losing it again during the double dash at Wrestle Kingdom this year, it feels like Okada still has that lightness he had after Dominion. He’s still putting on some of the best matches in the company, but he’s having fun and that’s what crowds love.

With the title no longer around his waist, it is the first time crowds are not opposed to him getting another shot. This definitely wasn’t the case in his last few reigns. Fans are now firmly behind Kazuchika Okada and want him to stay at the top of the company.
