10 Best Booked WWE Champions Of 2020
7. Keith Lee (NXT North American Championship)
If wrestling fans are disappointed with how Keith Lee's main roster run has gone so far, it's only because his booking in the first half of 2020 was so damn good.
After defeating Roderick Strong for the North American Championship, the Limitless One had the proverbial rocket strapped to his back. Despite holding a midcard belt, Lee looked every inch the main eventer as he defended the strap against the likes of Johnny Gargano, Finn Bálor and Dominik Dijakovic in high quality bouts that left viewers in no doubt that the North American strap was only a stepping stone on Lee's path to greatness. True enough, Lee ended Adam Cole's record-breaking NXT Championship reign at the Great American Bash in a star-making moment that was only slightly spoiled by one careless employee.
Lee's decision to abdicate the belt afterwards was absolutely the right call by WWE. Midcard titles should be secondary to the top prize in the company, and freeing it up gave NXT's increasingly packed undercard another belt to fight for. And just because it's not the belt doesn't mean the North American Championship isn't important - winning it was a vital part of Lee's road to the NXT Championship and Dijakovic wanted it so badly his failure to win it apparently sent him insane, causing him to don a $5 Mad Max cosplay, change his name to T-BAR and join the worst wrestling stable since The Union.
