10 Best Candidates To Take John Cena's US Title

3. Kevin Owens

Kevin Owens made a huge impact earlier this year when he debuted on Raw as the reigning NXT Champion, decimating John Cena. Though Owens immediately scored a clean non-title win over the U.S. Champion, when the belt was on the line, he was unable to get the job done. Despite his strong start, he ended the Cena program in a worse position than he began it.

There was a measure of redemption for Owens when he won the Intercontinental Championship, but he's still suffering from losing his feud with Cena... or so it seems. Perhaps Owens can have the last laugh, answering Cena's open challenge, reminding the champion of one of his greatest adversaries, and taking the title once and for all.

Owens as U.S. Champion would serve another purpose - the U.S. and Intercontinental Titles can be unified. With WWE's roster slimmer than it's been since before the company purchased WCW, two secondary titles seem unnecessary. Combining the belts would make the remaining championship seem more important, and could make the titleholder a true superstar.
