One of Hollywood’s most legendary actors had just appeared in a movie about the wrestling business and naturally he took a step onto the grandest stage of them all to step into the game for real. Mickey Rourke starred in the critically acclaimed movie The Wrestler from director Darren Aronofski, as Randy The Ram Robinson - a legendary grappler who’d fallen on hard times. With talk of multiple awards nominations surrounding The Wrestler’s release, it was a natural fit that Rourke came to WrestleMania.

Originally scheduled to go up against Chris Jericho one on one, those plans were changed - despite Rourke actually talking about it on a red carpet interview. The match eventually became Jericho taking on the legends as he attempted to prove that he was better than those who came before him. Facing off against Ricky Steamboat, Jimmy Snuka and Roddy Piper in a 3-on-1 handicap match, Jericho pulled off the win - despite a very spirited bit of work from Steamboat - and went on to taunt Rourke who was sitting at ringside.

Rourke stepped up to ‘the best in the world at what he does’ and punched him square in the face after a brief face off. Whereas the moment wasn’t what it could have been, it scored mainstream coverage for weeks after - along with the prestige of actually taking place in Hollywood
