Technically, Suplex City was founded at SummerSlam 2014 when Brock Lesnar delivered 16 German Suplexes to John Cena (in addition to multiple F5s) to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

But it wasn't officially considered a city until WrestleMania 31 when Lesnar repeated the feat in his match versus Roman Reigns, incapaciting him with several supelxes and screaming out "Suplex City, b*tch!" right on camera.

Of course, that didn't go unnoticed by the fans, who turned it into the chant of the night on the subsequent edition of Raw. Lesnar and his advocate Paul Heyman opened the evening demanding a championship rematch, but before Heyman could even speak, he was drowned out by "Suplex City!" chants.

And it became much more than that starting in the summer. WWE rebranded all of Lesnar's merchandise so the shirts had an exit sign on them that read "Suplex City" along with whatever city's name they happened to be in that night.

It was a brilliant marketing campaign that generated huge interest and, unsurprisingly, Lesnar has become one of the company's top merch sellers as a result.

Once Lesnar visited every city once, he returned to each town with the same shirt but in different colors, and fans bought those, too! WWE can thank the fans for turning that into what it has become.
