Vince McMahon might have been the only person who thought The New Day would actually flourish as faces. As soon as they debuted in November 2014, it was apparent they were going to quickly die a death as fan favorites, and it didn't take long for crowds to turn on them.

New Day put forth a strong effort to get their "New Day Rocks!" chant over with the audience, but not only did crowds not react, they soon changed "Rocks!" to "Sucks!", and it was significantly catchier.

And it started with the post-WrestleMania 31 Raw. Kofi Kingston, Big E and Xavier Woods all looked on in disgust as the crowd chanted "New Day Sucks!" during their eight-man tag team match. What had they done to deserve such a reaction?

This was a rare instance where WWE actually went with the flow instead of fighting it by slowly turning them into heels over the next month. It culminated with them going full-fledged heel at Extreme Rules by cheating to win the WWE Tag Team Championship from Cesaro and Tyson Kidd, and the rest is history.

Big E noted on Twitter that the group was begging for merchandise at this time one year ago and this year, they were among WrestleMania weekend's top merch sellers.

What a difference a year makes.
