10 Best Character Arcs In Wrestling Today

8. WALTER

The 2018 King of the Indies has left a very, very large and very, very red handprint on the chest of NXT in 2019.

Arriving in NXT UK, raising hell in NXT UK and very quickly leaving as the NXT UK champion, WALTER presents himself as a wrestling fundamentalist. No kneepads, no nonsense and a faction of like minded individuals at his beck and call.

Claiming to be here to restore honour to the once proud sport of professional wrestling, WALTER scowls upon the current state of his beloved vocation. It’s all well and good until one remembers how frequently he and his Imperium/Ringkampf cronies play fast and loose with the rules of the ring.

Buried beneath the technique and the brute strength and the passion for his craft there lies a desperate need for victory. So desperate in fact that WALTER will stoop to betraying his own code of conduct to attain victory, as evidenced by his treatment of David Starr and rope breaks, and resorting to ripping Rey Fenix’s mask off to attain the win. Shameful, truly shameful, yet he remains proudly traditionalist in his approach to the ring.

With WALTER we have a character possessing all the tools to succeed and none of the nonsense some would call gimmickry. The will to win however is so strong in his fighting spirit that it has gradually corrupted a prodigious wrestling idealist into an unrepentant conqueror.
