10 Best Crowd Chants & Signs From WWE Battleground 2016
9. "Bayley's Gonna Hug You!"
Truth be told, I could have picked any number of Bayley
chants for this list, including the popular remix of a certain Project X song.
But one that stuck in my mind in particular was the rendition of “Bayley’s gonna hug you” which had of course been popularised during her NXT run. Obviously it’s a play on the chants that have followed the likes of Samoa Joe for years, with the notable difference being the use of the word “hug” as opposed to “kill.”
Again, the significance here lies in the way it demonstrated the popularity of her gimmick outside of the safehaven that is NXT. Even on the main roster, fans don’t care that the idea of someone hugging you isn’t all that intimidating—they’re just happy to be caught up in the hype and get behind a fan favourite.
Based on the evidence from Battleground, I can’t see any
reason why Bayley isn’t going to be a huge success when she finally makes a
more permanent switch to the main roster.
