9. Extreme Rules - 2009
Extreme Rules was initially part of ECW's One Night Stand trilogy before being made its own show back in 2009. Its debut edition as a stand alone PPV was headlined by Edge and Jeff Hardy who faced off in a ladder match, but the event was stolen by Chris Jericho and Rey Mysterio. Jericho and Mysterio met in a no holds barred contest for the Intercontinental Championship in a match that had the most imaginative of endings. Y2J was set up to take a 619 but as Rey Rey tried to do so, Jericho somehow managed to pull his mask of and roll him up for the one, two, three. Later, the Rated R Superstar and The Charismatic Enigma went to battle in a classic ladder match. Both of these men made their respective names in these types of matches and kept their reputations in tact, maybe even enhancing them slightly if that was possible. After claiming the win and barely even being able to stand, Hardy lost his World Heavyweight Championship as CM Punk opportunistically cashed in his Money In The Bank Briefcase. The rest of the card's highlights included: Kofi Kingston defending his United States Championship in a fatal four way against MVP, William Regal, and Matt Hardy; CM Punk defeating Umaga in a Samoan Strap match; Tommy Dreamer claiming the ECW Championship from Christian (c) in a triple threat hardcore match that also involved Jack Swagger; Santina Marella defeating Vickie Guerrero and Chavo Guerrero for the title of Miss WrestleMania; Batista defeating Randy Orton for the WWE Championship inside a steel cage and John Cena defeating Big Show in a submission match. A bumper card that quite literally had something for everyone.
