10 Best Decisions That WCW Ever Made
4. Drawing Out The Sting/Hogan Feud
You can argue that the Sting/Hogan rivalry began in its own way the moment that Hulk Hogan walked into the company as the top babyface. Their first actual on-screen feud started the moment Hulk Hogan turned heel in July of 1996 and ran until their long-awaited one-on-one match in December of 1997. That is a rivalry that stretched over a year and a half of weekly television time. Sting may have disappeared for awhile and Hogan involved himself in other feuds, but for over a year the WCW teased fans with the biggest possible match they could have made.
Rarely has that kind of patience and long term planning ever been implemented in professional wrestling and it was certainly never duplicated in the television era. WCW could have pulled the trigger on this clash at any time for a huge payday, but instead wisely let things simmer as long as humanly possible. Oh sure, the match turned into a spectacular failure, but that does almost nothing to belittle the brilliance of the set-up.
