10 Best Decisions That WCW Ever Made
7. Letting Wrestlers Be Themselves
At a time when wrestlers were still required to work under the weight of increasingly over-the-top gimmicks, WCW took a rather novel approach by allowing their performers to just be themselves. The most obvious example of this would be guys like Kevin Nash and Scott Hall coming in using their actual names of all things, but this particular method turned out to work best for the company's undercard.
There is no better example of this than Chris Jericho, who ditched the mask and babyface persona the company originally saddled him with and instead began to cut a series of famous promos and vignettes that helped to establish the rockstar heel character that would turn him into a wrestling legend. In Jericho's case, it could have been as much the fact that the company higher ups simply forgot he was around and let him get on with it, but it was beneficial nevertheless.
