10 Best ECW PPVs You Need To Watch On The Network

10. One Night Stand 2006

WWE.comWWE.comWe kick off our list with the last proper reunion show ECW had before Vince McMahon re-appropriated the franchise into the WWE's third brand. After the previous year's successful reunion show, the WWE tried to capture lightning in a bottle a second time by staging another One Night Stand event, this time with a more adversarial slant. It was WWE vs ECW, with the WWE's roster members pitched as the heels and the ECW guys as the babyfaces, not that the crowd would have let it be any other way. With the exception of Kurt Angle as he was wrestling for ECW (incredibly, the hardcore ECW faithful accepted him in this capacity, a testament to just how good the man is) every WWE talent on the card was received with an obscene level of booing. Even the usually babyface Rey Mysterio was bombarded with a torrent of abuse. It's a fairly solid card from top to bottom, but the main event was easily the highlight of the night. Rob Van Dam had just won Money In The Bank that year and he cashed it in before the PPV, challenging reigning champion John Cena for the WWE title. If you thought Cena's reception at Money In The Bank 2011 was a rude one, you haven't heard anything yet. To give him his due, Cena plays his part well here, even in the details like dressing in black shorts as opposed to his usual lighter colors. This is the most heel we're ever likely to see him since he ditched the rapper gimmick and the way he knew exactly how to play the part he had in the story is commendable. This match is easily the highlight of Van Dam's professional career and the atmosphere, mostly due to the crowd, was incredible.
