7. Stone Cold Returns To Help The Rock Finally Defeat HHH For WWF Title - Backlash 2000

A severely underrated event, Backlash 2000 was one of the best pay-per-views from start to finish in the company's history. In the main event, the Rock challenged Triple H for the world heavyweight title. In April 2000, Triple H was the top heel in the promotion and his McMahon-Helmsley Regime was running roughshod on the WWF. Hunter had been world champion for the better part of the year and earned the hatred of the WWF crowd. Rumors flew that Steve Austin would be returning at the event but heel owner Vince McMahon promised us that would not be the case. Evil Shane McMahon would serve as the special guest referee, stacking the deck against the Rock and building much anticipation for the match. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sYF6r22UjKU The Rock and Triple H proceeded to have a great match, the best spot being a table spot where the Rock delivered a Rock Bottom to Triple H and Shane McMahon at the same time. With Shane taken out by the spot, Pat Patterson and Gerald Brisco ran to the ring in referee gear and beat down the Rock. All looked lost for the People's Champion until... The glass breaks. The live crowd (and probably most people at home) went absolutely crazy as Austin made his return carrying a steel chair. He destroyed anything that moved and took out every heel as Jim Ross went equally crazy on commentary. Finally, Linda McMahon brought out referee Earl Hebner, who had recently been fired by Steph and Hunter, and ordered him into the ring. The Rock delivered a People's Elbow and, three counts later, was the world champion for the fourth time. However, Triple H would get his rematch the next month and the finish to that pay-per-view would be equally as exciting.
