10 Best Endings In WWE Royal Rumble History

9. Stone Cold Steve Austin And The Rock (1998)

The 1998 Royal Rumble match is a special kind of Rumble. It likely won't go down as one of the greatest of all-time, but Attitude Era aficionados have a soft spot for it.

Filled with crazy gimmicks and total chaos, it's hard to keep up with all the eliminations, but the '98 Rumble has been able to stand the test of time regardless, especially the ending. There wasn't much doubt that Stone Cold Steve Austin was winning the Rumble, but the sheer excitement fans had for him entering the fray and unleashing hell was a telltale sign he was a star on the rise.

It was a faction-dominated Rumble with The Disciples of Apocalypse and The Nation of Domination taking control early on, but once Stone Cold came into the picture, no one was safe from his path of destruction. Waiting for him was the then-Intercontinental Champion The Rock, who had been in longer than any other competitor at 51 minutes.

In the end, it came down to him and Austin as the final two, a definite foreshadowing of the future. Standing across the ring from each other you had two of the greatest stars of that era, any era. How could you not get goosebumps? The Texas Rattlesnake tossed The Brahma Bull over the top rope to advance to the main event of WrestleMania XIV, but it would be far from the final time they would clash in the middle of the squared circle.
