5. William Regal

Veteran Regal currently earns his keep as NXT's sage authority figure (and recently, the brains behind the UK Championship tourney) but before he took up a cushy office job he was a capable performer in his own right, who wrestled for WWE for roughly a decade.

For much of it, he was seen less as a brooding technician (although he surely was one) than he was as a source of comic relief, finding out-of-ring employment both as a bumbling, ass-kissing commissioner for The Alliance, and then latterly the long-suffering chaperone of Eugene, Eric Bischoff's special nephew.

Regal wasn't always dealt the greatest of hands by WWE writers, but his instinct for comedy and ability to rile up the crowd ensured he was rarely left without at least something to do. Along the way, he won pretty much every title except the big one, as well as being crowned King of the Ring during his Indian Summer in 2008.
