WrestleMania XXIV was supposed to be the last chapter in Ric Flair's brilliant career. For quite some time, Flair had been wrestling with the story that his next loss would end his in-ring run. The tale was brilliantly executed, building to a crescendo at 'Mania when the 'Nature Boy' faced Shawn Michaels.

For his part, Michaels was amazing. It was obvious that his character had reservations about being the one to end Flair's WWE career, but he put his fellow veteran down with one final Sweet Chin Music. On commentary, Jim Ross did an expert job of selling the emotion of the moment.

When Flair was being pinned, tears were already falling down his cheeks. At that moment, he legitimately believed it was all over with. Post-match, Michaels let Ric bask in the afterglow of his legend, and the whole thing was incredibly tearful.

Kissing his hands and raising them to the audience, Flair repeatedly uttered 'thank you' as he cried. Thousands cried with him, in one of WWE's most powerful retirement angles of all time.
