10 Best Exceptions To WWE Rules

5. No Choking With Weapons

WWE didn't hang about when Daniel Bryan choked ring announcer Justin Roberts with his own tie in June 2010. Worried about what parents and corporate sponsors might think, the promotion fired Bryan (they brought him back a few months later, apparently feeling heat had died down) almost immediately.

You're unlikely to see someone being choked by a weapon in WWE to this day, at least to that extent. So, if you want that sort of thing, fire up AEW's Full Gear pay-per-view. There, a sadistic Jon Moxley wrapped a chain around Kenny Omega's jaw and pulled like he was pulling a certain mystical sword from its certain mystical stone.

Ouch.

This was a stunning, visceral reminder that AEW will do things WWE won't. The entire hardcore bloodbath was a display of that, in truth, and it showed that variety is very much welcome in modern pro wrestling after years of McMahon dominance.
