5. Asuka

Signing Asuka would not even have been contemplated five years ago. Her signing, her success, and her popularity are in themselves proof of how far the women’s division has come, and the appetite that fans have for quality women’s wrestling.

Everything about Asuka is different. Her entrance, her demeanour, her in-ring style. Her natural charisma and character mystique are enough to overcome the language barrier, and she receives a rabid reaction every time she steps through the curtain. I don't envy any woman who steps into the ring with Asuka - her strikes and submissions look legitimately painful, and less experienced competitors need to step up to her level or be mown down in the process.

Whether Asukua’s NXT success can translate on to the more commercial main roster remains to be seen. But as it stands now, she is at the top of the mountain in NXT and is the undisputed and well-deserving queen of that brand.

Stephanie Lim lives in London and has been watching wrestling since she was 4 years old, which is longer ago than she would like to admit. Her favourite wrestler of all time is Shawn Michaels, her favourite current wrestler is Kevin Owens, and she will always regret being too young to push her way through the crowd to shake Bret Hart's hand at a WWE event in 1993.
