10 Best Great American Bash Matches Ever

5. Dean Malenko Vs. Rey Mysterio Jr. (Cruiserweight Title) - 1996

WWE.comWWE.comThis was Rey's debut in WCW, so it has always held a special place in my heart since I'm a huge Mysterio fan. Even though he was in ECW before this, I wasn't able to see ECW at that time so it was my first time seeing him on TV. Keep in mind that Mysterio was only 21 years old at the time. He was so amazing at such a young age. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eXtjGj_gw1I There wasn't any kind of story going into the match. It was a way for WWE to introduce Mysterio to the audience. Malenko's one of the greatest technical wrestlers ever, so it was a nice counter of styles. There are so many great moments as Mysterio kept coming back from the submission wrestling style of Malenko. Seeing Mysterio do things like a springboard somersault plancha was unheard of in 1996. Malenko ended up winning the match after 18 minutes. Malenko won with a Powerbomb and he put his feet on the ropes for leverage. This was around the time when WCW's cruiserweight division was really starting to take off. Both of these guys were a big reason for that.
