10 Best Great American Bash Matches Ever

4. Lex Luger Vs. Ricky Steamboat (US Title) - 1989

WWE.comWWE.comSteamboat was one of the best babyface wrestlers ever. He was a master at bringing out the best of his opponents. Lex Luger went into this match as the heel US Champion that was the cockiest guy out there. Prior to the match, it was supposed to be a No DQ match, but then Luger said he would leave if it was like that. Steamboat just wanted a title shot, but he reluctantly agreed to do the match. What was so great about this match is that Luger was dominating most of it and doing everything he could to cheat, but Steamboat kept showing that hear that made people love him. Every time it looked like Steamboat would win, Luger managed to cut him off. The finish was interesting as Luger gave Steamboat a back body drop from one ring into the other one. There was a Wargames match, so they had two rings side by side. Luger ended up bringing in a chair into the match with the idea that he wanted to get DQ'd. Steamboat gave him a slingshot with the chair. Steamboat ended up nailing Luger with the chair several times because he was so frustrated. He even hit the ref! That was so unlike Steamboat. We rarely saw Steamboat lose it like that, but that's why this was such a great match because it fit the story they were trying to tell. It was fun to re-watch this one because Luger was actually pretty good in the late 1980s/early 1990s until he got into a motorcycle accident that really affected him. The performance of Steamboat was no surprise. He was always amazing.
