8. Seth Rollins Dumps The Shield

Seth Rollins' 2014 split from The Shield showed the importance of long-term planning in wrestling. The Hounds of Justice had spent so much of their careers as a three-piece that it seemed unthinkable that any one of them would want to go solo.

But that's exactly what The Architect did after a word in the ear from The Authority's Triple H, who promised his new apprentice the world if he agreed to break up the most dangerous vigilante group WWE had seen in a generation.

The moment itself was thrilling too. The sledgehammer-wielding King of Kings walked down the ramp, flanked by Randy Orton, seemingly with the aim of taking them on in a fight to the death - but then stopped in his tracks and made a cryptic allusion to his regime's "plan B" instead.

Then, out of nowhere, Seth wrapped a handy steel chair around the back of Roman Reigns, before doing the same to a slack-jawed Dean Ambrose. It was great for memes, and more importantly, great for the former ROH star, who instantly became a main event contender.
