4. Matanza

The reveal of Matanza was a year in the making, and it was definitely worth it.

Fans were perhaps expecting someone taller to play the role of Dario Cueto’s murderous brother, but Jeff Cobb has done a stellar job. There’s currently no monster character in the business who can move like him. I'd love to see Kane attempt a standing Moonsault.

Besides being deadly in the ring, Matanza is even more vicious outside of it. He's not only ended the life of a few innocent people who were simply looking to find an underground fight club, but he's also killed roster member Bael. Bah Gawd Matanza. That man had a family!

The monster’s debut was one of the most brilliant heel introductions of this era, because he absolutely destroyed everyone in his path with ease. It's such a simple idea, but rarely executed.

He emerged at Atztec Warfare after every announced opponent had already entered the match. In a dramatic moment, Dario Cueto returned, and finally introduced his secret weapon. Decked out in his horror villain-like mask and outfit, Matanza quickly dismantled everyone in his path. One Lucha star after the next tried their luck against him, only to be broken in half.

It was one hell of a debut, and quickly shot him to the top of the company. As of yet, no man alive or dead seems to be his equal.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
