10 Best Impact Wrestling World Champions Of All Time
6. Kurt Angle
At the time of writing, Kurt Angle holds the record for most reigns with the Impact World Championship, having held the gold on a record six separate occasions at a combined 608 days. Each of those reigns range on a scale of good to excellent, not like we'd expect anything else from The Olympic Gold Medalist.
Not only does he hold the record for most reigns and longest combined reigns, Kurt was also the first champion. Whenever you speak of the World Championship, his name will always be there as number one. At the time the title was introduced (May 2007), there wasn't anyone else who should've held it first. Angle was a relative newcomer to Impact at this point after departing WWE the previous year, and was making waves following his initial rivalry with Samoa Joe.
You could argue that Impact could've made the inaugural champion one of the rising stars of the industry (such as Joe) as opposed to an established name. In hindsight though, it added that bit of prestige to the championship by having the first champ be a legitimate athlete. He didn't win the title with a broken freakin' neck though...
