10 Best Insults In The History Of MMA
9. Conor McGregor - Who The Fook
A common tactic employed by fighters attempting to raise their profile in the combat sports world is to engage in a feud with one of MMA's biggest stars then hope that the resulting publicity leads to a boost in your fanbase.
Seems logical so far...
Even decades before the social media age, fighters have piggybacked off the success of their more well-known contemporaries in order to position themselves in the public eye.
One of the first fighters to popularise this was Muhammad Ali when he set off on a publicity tour prior to his fight with dominant champion Sonny Liston, calling the feared Liston just about every name in the book.
The technique worked perfectly for Ali, who had all eyes on him when he defeated Liston in a major upset to win the world heavyweight title.
Unfortunately, gunning for the biggest name in the business isn't always an effective tactic.
Jeremy Stephens has been a perennial contender in the UFC for over a decade now, so it's no surprise that he, like almost everyone at 145lbs, was angling towards a fight with uber-popular champion Conor McGregor.
Stephens proclaimed at a UFC press conference that he was the hardest hitting featherweight in the world, prompting a bemused McGregor to mutter the now-immortal line:
"Who the f*ck is that guy?"
