10 Best Late Career Runs In Wrestling History

4. Edge (2006-2011)

Elimination Chamber 2011 Edge
WWE

He might be one of the most decorated champions in WWE history, but it was over a decade before Edge reached his peak. Starting-out in 1992, he signed with WWE in 1996, and was eventually paired with Christian. The duo’s partnership became legendary, and they scored seven WWE Tag Team Title runs prior to their eventual split in 2001, when Edge’s singles push began.

Edge didn’t become a true main eventer until several years later, however. His 2005 feud with Matt Hardy made him one of wrestling’s most despised heels, and acted as a perfect springboard to the top of the card. He was already the Money In The Bank briefcase holder by that point, but the Hardy/Lita situation put him over the top, and in January 2006, Edge cashed-in to win his first WWE Championship.

A glittering run followed, and Edge scored 11 total World Title reigns over the next few years. His career came to a depressingly abrupt end in 2011, however, meaning that his greatest successes were mostly crammed into a condensed five-year period. Still, he was given the rare honor of retiring as champion, and was inducted into the Hall Of Fame one year later.
