10 Best Lucha Libre Wrestlers In The World Right Now

2. Rey Mysterio

When it was announced that Rey Mysterio had left WWE in February 2015, there was an odd sense of apathy. Rey had been a part-time performer for the previous few years, even being booed when he emerged as #30 in the 2014 Royal Rumble match (admittedly only because fans craved Daniel Bryan in that slot).

Refusing to sit still, Mysterio returned to Mexico and worked wonders on AAA shows. Naturally, Lucha Underground became interested in one of the most iconic names in Lucha Libre, signing Rey in December 2015 just in time for the show's second season.

Getting himself back in stunning physical shape, the 42 year old has taken years off his appearance since departing WWE. That's eye-opening, and Mysterio should act as an example to any veterans worrying about life after WWE.

Rekindling the magical performances that made him an industry darling in the mid-1990s with groups like ECW and WCW (paving the way for greater success in WWE), Rey Mysterio is still among the planet's finest.
