10 Best Lucha Underground Moments

8. Matanza’s Debut

Perhaps no debut in professional wrestling has ever been as destructive as Matanza’s was. Brock Lesnar beat up a handful of hardcore competitors in impressive fashion his first night in, Finn Balor became a number one contender on his first episode of Raw, but Matazna destroyed virtually every top competitor in the company by himself. It was awesome.

We had been waiting to witness this monster in action for over a year, as we had only seen glimpses of him locked inside of a cell by his brother Dario. But we knew he was capable of anything, even murder. In season two’s Aztec Warfare, the monster Matanza Cueto finally debuted, and he immediately unleashed hell on earth.

At one point, six wrestlers went at him at the exact same time and it still wasn’t enough. He threw them all off, and went to work beating each one into oblivion. He didn’t even seem human. He was like Jason Voorhees in wrestling form...except that he could do a standing Shooting Star press.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
