10 Best Lucha Underground Moments

9. Pentagon Jr. Vs. Vampiro

Pentagon Jr. vs. Vampiro at Ultima Lucha was not a good match from a technical standpoint by an means. But the strong story leading into it, and the incredibly excessive violence in the match made it one of the most memorable bouts of 2015.

We knew that Pentagon had a “master”, but had no idea who it was. In vignettes, we’d see his brutal training regimen which saw him set him up against various nameless opponents whose arms Pentagon would break in half.

Pentagon then set his sights on Sexy Star as his next victim, but announcer Vampiro stepped in to to stop him from breaking her arm, as she was a hero to his young daughter. This eventually forced the reluctant Ian Hodgkinson back into the ring, and the two delivered one insanely brutal match at Ultima Lucha. Light bulb tubes, tacks, a flaming table and lots and lots of blood were involved.

The ending saw the shocking reveal that it was Vampiro who was Pentagon's master all along. It was a dark and disturbing moment, but the twist wrapped up one storyline, while setting the stage for even more intriguing developments in the second season.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
