10 Best Lucha Underground Moments
7. Rey vs. Puma
Two of the best things that have come from Lucha Underground so far has been the ascension of Prince Puma as one of the company’s top stars, and the resurgence of Rey Mysterio Jr.
In WWE, Mysterio had a great run until his last couple years there. Due to a string of injuries and Wellness Policy violations, he was a non-factor in the company, and him leaving seemed like the best option for both parties. Once he landed in Lucha, he seemed rejuvenated and in better ring shape than he had been in a decade.
While Puma and Rey had been teaming up, and captured the Trios Championship together, Puma wanted to prove that he was the best luchador in the world, and needed to beat the legendary Mysterio in order to do it.
Rey was a touch slower than in his prime, but still impressive for his early 40s. He was able to match the young star move-for-move, thrilling the crowd in the process and delivering one of the best matches in the Temple so far. Puma's cockiness cost him, and Rey barely walked out with the victory, proving that he wasn’t yet ready to give up his mantle of best luchador.
