10 Best Matches In ECW History

2. Rob Van Dam Vs. Jerry Lynn - Guilty As Charged 2001

As far as in-ring action goes, ECW's most legendary feud would be the one between Rob Van Dam and Jerry Lynn, who battled each other continuously for what seemed like forever but was never truly long enough. Their scuffles began whilst RVD was TV Champion, a strap he would hold for two damn years. No one came as close as Lynn to dethroning RVD.

The chemistry between the two is well-documented, and truth be told you could choose any one of their matches for this list. Their bouts at Hardcore Heaven in 1999 and Living Dangerously the same year get a lot of coverage, but for me it is the battle at Guilty As Charged in ECW's dying days that gets my vote.

There was a clear good guy/bad guy dynamic here, something that may get forgotten from time to time in pro wrestling. They went through their usual spots, but the time spent working together meant that here they came with a smoother fluidity and at a more frantic pace. For me this was their apex.

RVD picked up the win, as he usually did, but Lynn lost nothing in defeat.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
