10 Best Matt Hardy Matches

9. Vs. Jeff Hardy (WWE Backlash 2009)

Under the WWE umbrella from a young age, Matt and Jeff Hardy found their love in the hopeless place that was WrestleMania IV - a show that kicked off the creative and commercial triumph that was the 'Mega Powers Explode' angle between Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage. It was perhaps that level of drama they imagined when fantasy booking their own WWE rivalry, but several false starts and failed attempts rendered the various Matt Vs Jeff matches more Mega Maniacs than Mega Powers until TNA gave them carte blanche in 2016.

One diamond in the rough sat a month removed from a deeply disappointing WrestleMania 25 battle. Sharing the 'Grandest Stage' had to be a dream for the North Carolinians, but their laboured brawl played out to a nightmarish silence from the 72,744 bored spectators expecting the type of excitement Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker provided later in the night.

With the weight of expectation lifted a month later, the pair finally found some electricity together in a gripping "I Quit" Backlash battle. The April pay-per-view had often been the place where WrestleMania rematches bettered their originals, and Matt and Jeff took full advantage of their reduced status to blow the roof off when it mattered less. The finish - a cowardly Matt, shackled to a table, quits in fear only to be planted through it anyway by a vengeful Jeff - toyed brilliantly with a crowd thirsty for the violence they eventually received.
