Matches between two of the most iconic teams in industry history became the byword for the division's peak almost as they were happening during the 2000/01 peak for the league, but the foundations for those exhausting epics were laid months earlier in a payoff to a punchline.

The "Terri Invitational Tournament" (T.I.T, lol) offered cash and the services of Terri Runnels to either The Hardy Boyz or Edge & Christian as the midcard pairings battled it out in a best-of-five series.

In a very 1999 WWE move, the televised final went to a non-finish, affording all four the chance to steal a lacklustre October pay-per-view in a Ladder Match to decide the lot.

Engineered to exhilarate, the bumps were unlike anything even Shawn Michaels at his most insane had ever attempted up to that point. Still a rarity compared to roll-outs it received in modern day WWE, the gimmick hadn't been exhausted until this match advertised that it had to be. Even Chris Jericho - then a lost soul sat in the stands having only debuted two months earlier - marvelled at the starmaking sizzle on display. Watched nearly two decades on from it's inception, the match loses no drama - a feat credited to the particular matchmaking expertise of Matt and Edge.
