The final of the IWGP United States Championship tournament saw Omega and Ishii go at it once again. This was a rubber match for the rivalry, and it was Omega who managed to outlast Ishii and pick up the title and the series. Omega/Ishii III was arguably the best of the three matches.

This was the perfect way to end an important two days of pro wrestling. This was a slower match than the previous two between the foes, but that shouldn't be taken as a criticism - quite the opposite, in fact. An important prize was on the line, and neither man was willing to risk making a mistake.

The frenetic pace eventually arrived of course, as both men got tantalising close to a place in history. The final stretch was full of memorable moments, but one particular spot lives long in the memory. It looked as though Omega was going to hit Ishii with a dragon suplex from the apron through a table on the floor. Ishii's hands were locked, but the Stone Pitbull bit down on the top rope to avoid being suplexed.

It was an incredible visual. Omega, struggling with all his might to deliver the killer blow. Ishii, almost resigned to his fate but refusing to give up. Ishii's teeth couldn't hold out forever, and Omega delivered the suplex through the table. This kicked the match into a higher gear, and it was Omega who eventually prevailed.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
