10 Best Non-World Title Title Matches In WWE WrestleMania History

4. Bret Hart Vs. Roddy Piper - WrestleMania VIII

As far as matches that made new stars go, this one doesn’t quite get as much attention as it deserves. Bret Hart up until this point was perhaps more known as a tag team wrestler with the Hart Foundation. This bout, over the Intercontinental Title with Roddy Piper however, left no doubts in anyone’s mind that Bret was to be a singles megastar.

There’s not really much to get into with regards to the match. You have two of the greatest of all time going at it inside the ring with no nonsense involved, so you can already guess what this produced.

Best part about it was that it wasn’t a simple technical masterpiece that Hart is known for. This was a stiff, hard-hitting contest that descended into a bloody brawl at the end. It captured everything good about the wrestling styles and personas of Hart and Piper. And when Bret did take the title off the senior statesmen, his stock soared.
