Before WrestleMania 2, WWF cage matches would take place inside a structure made out of chicken wire and were bloody, brutal matches. Bruno Sammartino sold out Madison Square Garden many times during the '60s and '70s with these violent feud-enders, but by 1986 Hulkamania was in its shirt-tearing pomp and the world was watching. The problem with the traditional cage was that it didn't allow the greatest view for the growing number of armchair viewers.

For the main event of WrestleMania 2, then, the WWF debuted its iconic blue-barred cage for the WWF Championship match between Hulk Hogan and King Kong Bundy. The big gaps between the bars allowed the pay-per-view audience the chance to see every second of the Hulkster getting his revenge on the disturbingly hairless Bundy. It was far from the greatest cage match of all time, but the new set-up made WWF cage matches distinctive from those of their rivals. Fans could easily enjoy every second of Hogan's comeback victory and post-match beat down of Bobby 'The Brain' Heenan without any eye straining. The new structure was perfect for the slick new production style of the company and was here to stay.
