10 Best Opponents For John Cena At WWE WrestleMania 33

10. Roman Reigns

While this would certainly be a huge match, it ranks last here as the build to it probably won’t pan out well. Right now Roman Reigns and John Cena are positioned as babyfaces in WWE, but to a large segment of the audience, they’re the biggest heels in the company. What the hell kind of reaction would this match receive at WrestleMania?

The most likely scenario is that Reigns would get booed over Cena. That’s how much the crowd dislikes him, plus Cena has the benefit of being a legacy wrestler who has won some respect from the most hardcore fans over the past few years. So if the goal is to turn either guy heel in the match, it just won't work. A post-match attack would lead to a split reaction, and be more confusing than anything.

Otherwise WWE could position this as a Rock vs. Cena-type battle of generations, but again, the crowd reaction would be brutal. Another route to make this happen would be to turn one of them heel, and have the chosen wrestler firmly slotted in that role within five months. That’s likely not to happen either.

Despite the two being on separate brands, WWE is still rather flippant about the entire split, so that's not really standing in the way, so it's still possible to go down. You can imagine Roman and Cena will likely go at it someday in a big match, but Mania 33 doesn’t feel like the right time.
