10 Best Performances From Number 1 In WWE Royal Rumble Match
4. Stone Cold Steve Austin - 1999
The 1999 Royal Rumble match was built around one thing - Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. Vince McMahon
McMahon stacked the deck against Austin, making him the number one entrant. However, WWF Commissioner, Shawn Michaels, decided to have a little fun with Vince and made him the number two entrant.
This was a stroke of genius. WWE could have booked no other matches for this card and announced no other Rumble participants and people still would have bought this pay-per-view for the chance to see Austin kick McMahon's ass.
Due to a buttload of interference that resulted in Austin being taken out of the match and Vince hiding on commentary, the first two entrants in the Rumble ended up as the final two.
Austin looked like he had the match won, but a distraction from The Rock allowed Vince to tip Austin over the top rope and win his own company's signature match.
Austin lasted almost an hour in this match and told an amazing story that every single fan was invested in. He might not have won the match, but he definitely made it a hoot to watch.
