For more than two decades, fans have dreamed of a bout between The Undertaker and Sting. Though once, the draw was WWE's most loyal warrior versus WCW's, both men have transcended their home organizations to become larger-than-life celebrities. Over the past few years -- with the recognition that both men are firmly in middle age and that Sting's contractual status with TNA was wavering -- the hope only intensified.
When Sting finally left TNA, the match seemed inevitable. However, Undertaker's loss at WrestleMania XXX put the future of his career into question. In the end, Sting joined WWE and both men competed at WrestleMania XXXI, but not against one another.
With 'Taker's loss to Lesnar and Sting's loss to Triple H, this bout may have lost some of it's luster, but it's still a bona fide dream match capable of capturing fan interest like almost no other bout. With Sting rumored to be competing at SummerSlam as well, this may be the direction in which WWE is heading. The only caveat is that perhaps waiting until WrestleMania XXXII would be wiser for such a huge encounter.
